We live in a busy and often chaotic world.

Every day brings its own demands—work, family, studies, finances, and relationships. It is easy to become so focused on the next task or problem that we rarely stop to ask: What is all this for?

It is like holding a few pieces of a puzzle in our hands. We can see the pieces, but we cannot see the whole picture. As a result, we often become trapped in our present circumstances and assume that what is in front of us is all there is.

This is one of the effects of sin. Sin separates us from God and leaves the world broken. Our relationship with God is damaged, our relationships with others are strained, and life itself can often feel confusing and disconnected. We may be busy with many things, yet struggle to see how they fit into God’s bigger purposes.

In Ephesians 1, however, Paul lifts our eyes from our immediate circumstances to God’s grand plan of redemption.

Instead of focusing on human problems, he begins by praising God for His grace. Before the foundation of the world, God chose us in Christ and adopted us as His children. Through Christ’s blood, He redeemed us and forgave our sins. He has also given us the Holy Spirit as a seal and guarantee that we belong to Him and will one day receive all that He has promised.

And all these blessings point to something even greater: “as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.” (Ephesians 1:10)

God’s purpose is not merely to help us get through today’s struggles. Long before the world began, He had already set His plan of redemption in motion, and He is still carrying it out today.

Sin has separated us from God, damaged our relationships, and left the world broken. But through Jesus Christ, God is at work restoring what sin has torn apart.

This means that our lives are not a series of random events. Our work, our families, our ministry, our waiting, and even our struggles are all held in God’s hands. In Christ, we have been made part of God’s greater plan.

One day, everything that has been broken by sin will be made right. People will be reconciled to God, relationships will be restored, and creation itself will be renewed under Christ’s rule.

This is what Paul means when he says that all things will be united in Christ. It is the hope that enables us to keep trusting God, even when His purposes are not yet clear to us.

Reflection:
What concern has occupied your mind most recently? How might today’s passage help you view it in light of God’s greater plan?

Prayer:
Heavenly Father God, thank You for showing us Your greater plan through the Lord Jesus Christ. When our hearts are overwhelmed by the concerns and pressures of daily life, help us to lift our eyes to You and remember that You are still at work. Give us faith to keep trusting You, even when we cannot see the whole picture. Help us to remember that one day all things will be united under Christ, and everything broken by sin will be made whole again. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
