As we come to the closing verses of Ephesians, Paul does not simply end with a farewell, but he points the believers to a fellow servant, Tychicus, who would update them on Paul’s situation and encourage their hearts (vv. 21-22). This reminds us that the Christian life was never meant to be lived alone. Throughout Ephesians, Paul has emphasised that we are members of one body, joined together in Christ. Even while imprisoned, Paul remained connected to fellow believers through relationships, mutual care, and encouragement. The gospel not only reconciles us to God, but it also binds us together as His family.
Church camp may be over, but the connections we have built do not end when we return to our regular routines. The conversations, prayers, meals, worship, and fellowship we experienced together are reminders that God has placed us in a spiritual family. We continue to need one another’s encouragement as we seek to follow Christ and participate in His mission.
Paul’s final blessing also beautifully summarises the themes of the entire letter: “Peace to the brothers and sisters, and love with faith from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Grace to all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with an undying love” (vv. 23-24). Paul’s words reiterate the gifts we have received that flow from God Himself. Peace for troubled hearts. Love that binds believers together. Faith that sustains us. Grace that carries us until the end.
As we reflect on Christ’s love for His church, and also prepare for Father’s Day this coming Sunday, may we remember that every Christian family, and even our church family, is ultimately shaped by His grace. May our homes and our church continue to be places where God’s peace, love, and grace are experienced and shared.
Reflection:
1. Who has God used to encourage and strengthen your faith recently, and how can you encourage someone else this week?
2. How can you help preserve the unity that Christ has already given His church, whether in your family, ministry, or relationships?
Prayer:
Heavenly Father God, thank You for making us one family in Christ. Help us to continue walking together in unity and mission. Teach us to bear with one another, encourage one another, and use the gifts You have given us to build up Your church. As Christ has broken down every wall that divides us, help us to treasure the unity You have already given us and to grow together into maturity in Him. Fill our homes, our ministries, and our church family with Your peace, love, and grace, so that together we may reflect the love of Christ and bring glory to You. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
