“The trumpeters and singers joined together in one voice to praise and give thanks to the LORD. Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals and other instruments, they raised their voices in praise to the LORD: ‘The LORD is good; his love endures forever!’ At that moment, the temple of the LORD was filled with a cloud… The glory of the LORD filled the temple of God. “(Verses 13–14) The author of 2 Chronicles recorded this precious scene! God’s people, with musical instruments and songs, united in one voice to praise the LORD whom they served and worshiped! God accepted their worship, and His glory filled the temple! We have every reason to believe that the spirit of those who participated wholeheartedly in this were surely uplifted! They would also experience the “spiritual joy and fullness” described by Dr. AW Tozer in his book !
The context of this morning’s devotional passage records how King Solomon completed the construction of the Temple, placed the gold and silver vessels prepared by David into the treasury (verse 1), and solemnly carried the Ark of the Covenant from the City of David into the Holy Place (vv 2–10). In verses 11–14, the focus shifts from the Temple vessels to the people engaged in service and worship in God’s presence: the priests purified themselves and served in unity, regardless of their divisions (v 11), while the Levites, together with 120 priests, blew trumpets and sang praises in unison (vv 12–13). God accepted the worship of His people and was present with them. (vv 13b–14)
The Apostle John describes this scene in Revelation: “The twenty-four elders fall down before him who is seated on the throne and worship him who lives forever and ever. They cast their crowns before the throne, saying, “Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.” (Revelation 4:10–11)
Our God is the One True God who brings into being what was not there and who created all things. For this reason, once a person accepts Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord of his life, God will certainly prepare a spiritual home for him on earth. On Sundays, going to God’s house to worship the Lord in spirit and truth together with fellow brothers and sisters is a lifelong commitment—not something done only when one has free time.
This morning, let us deeply imprint this image of God’s people worshiping in unity upon our hearts; at the same time, let us take a good look at how each of us participates in worship every Sunday. In the book , Dr. A W Tozer offers these thought-provoking words: “By the authority of God’s Word, I can boldly say that if anyone in this world feels bored or uninterested in worship, they have not yet become a part of God’s kingdom.”
Reflection:
When you attend Sunday worship, do you join the congregation in singing to worship God? If so, let us continue to learn to worship and praise Him through hymns. If not, why not? Since God has given you a voice, are you willing to begin singing to worship and praise Him, and to participate in corporate worship?
Prayer:
Glorious and holy Heavenly Father, thank You for allowing us, Your humble servants, to come before You in Christ and worship You! Forgive us for often taking this blessing for granted and failing to worship You with sincerity. Father! Please also teach us that worshiping You is not limited to that one hour on Sunday in the sanctuary, but rather, as the hymn says, “I live to worship You all my life!” We pray in the precious and holy name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
