Living in Singapore, one thing almost everyone takes for granted is that every morning the sun shines upon the land. Whether in the HDB estates, the parks, or the busy commercial districts, when daylight rises, darkness gradually retreats, and everything around us becomes clear. The sun does not need to prove its own existence. It simply keeps shining, bringing light, warmth, and direction to people.

The Lord Jesus said, “You are the light of the world.” This is not merely a word of encouragement but a declaration of identity. Everyone who belongs to Christ, because the Lord dwells in their life, carries the mission of light. Just as the sun naturally lights up the world, so Christians ought to live out the life of the Lord each day through their words, attitudes, and actions, so that those around them may feel the love and truth of God.

Jesus also said that no one lights a lamp and puts it under a basket, but on a stand, so that it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, God has placed us in our families, workplaces, schools, and communities, and He has a purpose in this. Perhaps we may not achieve anything spectacular, but a word of encouragement, an act of taking the initiative to care, a commitment to integrity, or a heart willing to forgive can all become light that shines on others.

The Lord Jesus reminds us that the purpose of light is not to bring praise to ourselves but “that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” True witness does not put ourselves in the spotlight, but allows others, through our lives, to know more of God’s love and grace.

Every year from May to August, FMC’s mission focus is to “Glow — Living Out Christ’s Love.” Glow is not merely a slogan but a way of life. May we be willing each day to let the light of Christ first shine within us, and through our lives shine on those around us, so that more people may come to know the Lord through us and give glory to our Heavenly Father.

Reflection:
Today, how can I, through a word, an action, or a choice, let those around me see Christ through my life?

Prayer:
Heavenly Father God, thank You for making me the light of the world in Christ. Help me to live a life worthy of this identity, so that my words, attitudes, and actions may display Your love and truth, so that more people may come to know You through my life and give glory to You. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
