Dear brothers and sisters, grace and peace to you!
Whether you spent the past few days at our Church Camp in Malacca or remained in Singapore at Foochow Methodist Church, we are all one FaMily in Christ, sharing together in God’s grace.
Today, as we return to our daily routines and face the responsibilities of work, family, and everyday life, this passage gently reminds us that true revival and unity are not confined to a special event or gathering. Rather, they are expressed in the ordinary rhythms of daily life as we learn to live as “children of light” together.
“For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light” (v. 8).
Paul reminds us that becoming children of light is not the result of our own determination or effort. It is because we have been brought into the light of Christ. We all face challenges, weariness, and moments of weakness. Yet we need not be discouraged. The Lord does not demand perfection from us. He simply invites us to come to Him with open hearts.
Our prayer is that the Lord would strengthen every member of God’s family. Whenever you feel weary, return to Him. His love and grace are always sufficient to sustain you.
How then do we live as children of light in our daily lives?
The key is found in Paul’s exhortation: “Try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord” (v. 10). As we make decisions, interact with family members, and relate to colleagues or friends, we can first pause and pray, “Lord, what would please You in this situation?”
When we are willing to set aside our own preferences, attitudes, and habits in order to seek the Lord’s will, we discover the strongest foundation for genuine unity with others.
The latter part of our Church Camp focused on the theme of being “One in Mission.” Yet mission is not a distant ideal reserved for a select few. It begins with how we live each day. Paul encourages us to “make the best use of the time” (v. 16). Wherever God has placed us, a word of encouragement, a listening ear, or a simple act of kindness can become a testimony that points others to the light of Christ.
Life is not always easy, but we do not walk alone.
Paul concludes by urging believers to “be filled with the Spirit” (v. 18). Under pressure, our hearts can easily become filled with complaints and discouragement. But those who are filled with the Holy Spirit are able to respond with praise, gratitude, and hope.
The beauty of the FMC family is not that we never face difficulties. Rather, it is that when we stumble or grow weary, there are brothers and sisters who come alongside us, supporting us with love and encouraging us with God’s Word.
My dear family in Christ, let us continue to walk together in the light, and in the ordinary moments of daily life, live out the beautiful calling of being children of light.
Reflection:
As I face today’s pressures, responsibilities, and relationships, where do I need to pause and ask, “Lord, what would please You in this situation?”
Prayer:
Heavenly Father God, thank You for placing us in the family of Foochow Methodist Church. We pray for every brother and sister who is studying, working, caring for family, or carrying various responsibilities. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit, that we may live each day as children of light and show kindness and grace to one another. Help us not to rely on our own strength, but on Your sustaining grace. May our homes, workplaces, schools, and church reflect Your glory and bear witness to Your goodness. In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.
