Galatians 3:7-29

Now the promises were made to Abraham and to his offspring. It does not say, “And to offsprings,” referring to many, but referring to one, “And to your offspring,” who is Christ. – Galatians 3:16

In today’s passage, Paul brings us back to a foundational truth about our identity. He reminds us that those who have faith are the true children of Abraham (v.7). Belonging to God’s people does not come from background, heritage, or human effort. It comes through faith in Jesus Christ.

God’s promise to Abraham was always meant to reach far beyond one nation. From the beginning, God declared that all the nations shall be blessed through him (v.8). That promise finds its fulfilment in Christ. Jesus, the true offspring of Abraham, took upon Himself the curse of the law through His death on the cross (v.13), so that the blessing of Abraham would extend to all who believe.

Because of this, our standing before God is completely changed. We were once far off, without hope and separated from Him. Now, through faith in Christ, we are brought near. Paul says, “you are all sons of God, through faith” (v.26), and “if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to promise” (v.29).

These truths speak directly into everyday life. It is possible to understand them in our minds, yet we still feel uncertain about where we belong. At times, identity is shaped by expectations, performance, or comparison with others. When that happens, the heart quietly drifts away from what God has already said is true.

Paul calls us back to the gospel. We are received by God because of Christ, and we now belong to Him. This identity also shapes how we relate to others. “There is neither Jew nor Greek… for you are all one in Christ Jesus” (v.28). In Christ, we are brought into a new people, where unity is grounded in Him rather than in our differences.

Today, God invites us to rest in this identity and to live it out, secure in His acceptance, and growing together as His people.

Reflection:
Do I truly live as someone who belongs to God, or do I still define myself by other things? How can I more consciously live out my identity in Christ in my daily life and relationships?

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You that through Jesus Christ, I belong to You as Your child. Help me to believe this more deeply and to live it out each day. When I feel uncertain or inadequate, remind me of Your promises. Teach me to walk by faith and to live in unity with others as part of Your people. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
